Love, family, and football: Sam Kerr's wedding day paints a picture of priorities that resonates far beyond the pitch. Aussie football icon Sam Kerr recently married her long-time partner, fellow footballer Kristie Mewis, in a private ceremony in Perth. The wedding, a beautiful culmination of their relationship, took place in Kerr’s hometown, the Swan Valley Region, on New Year’s Eve.
This event marked the end of a momentous year for the couple, who welcomed their first son, Jagger, into the world in May. But here's where it gets heartwarming... Mewis, radiant in an elegant white dress and flowing veil, walked down the aisle. Kerr, in a sharp black tuxedo, arrived at the ceremony with a baby bottle in hand.
In a touching moment, Kerr carried Jagger down the aisle, leaving Mewis visibly moved. Mewis had earlier confessed, “That’s going to be gut-wrenching for me. I will sob when that happens.”
The intimate wedding was attended by approximately 120 guests. The setting was a private ceremony in the Swan Valley, located northeast of Perth. Kerr, at 30 years old, and Mewis, 33, had become engaged in 2021 and celebrated the arrival of their son in May 2024.
Their relationship blossomed publicly in 2020 after they connected through international football commitments. Kerr is a superstar representing Australia’s Matildas, and Mewis shines as an international star for Team USA.
Mewis shared some wedding details on her podcast, Mewis Squared, revealing that over 100 people would be in attendance, including teammates from both the Matildas and the United States national team. “Talking to 120 people in one night is a lot,” Mewis admitted. “I’m stressing about not being able to give enough time to everyone.”
And this is the part most people miss... There was no extended honeymoon planned due to club football commitments. Kerr's Chelsea team was scheduled to play their next fixture on January 11 against West Ham United.
Kerr's journey in football began at just 15 when she debuted for the Matildas. She has since become Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer across men’s and women’s internationals. Her impressive record includes 69 goals from over 120 appearances. She's a four-time Golden Boot winner in the NWSL and has scored more than 60 goals for Chelsea since joining the club in 2020.
Mewis, on the other hand, has represented the United States over 50 times and was part of the squad that won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. At the club level, she has played for the Houston Dash and Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League and signed with West Ham United in 2023. She announced earlier in 2025 that she would be departing the club upon the conclusion of her contract.
