When I first encountered the painting that inspired the song and the photoshoot, it was a soul-searching exercise that I was driven to do but I didn’t know when would be the time to release it. Now I know why: the when is now."
He adds, "This is something I wrote many years ago, and I want it to be nothing more than thought-provoking. I want people to see and hear what they will in it. My hope is that by sharing these thought-provoking moments in my world, I can somehow open the eyes of others to things in their world and to the existence we all share, which is more and more endangered with each passing day."
Despite being the only song featuring Fleetwood as a vocalist, it sadly closes the album on a rather muted note. Many fans viewed "Time" as one of the weaker entries in Fleetwood Mac's discography, which likely contributed to the band's decision to regroup for some performances of their classic album "Rumours," enjoying a resurgence with projects like "The Dance."
Interestingly, the lyrics of "These Strange Times" almost seem to foreshadow Fleetwood’s own feelings about the project, as he reflects on performing tasks he would rather avoid to finish the album. While "Time" may not stand out in Fleetwood Mac’s extensive catalog, it’s somewhat amusing to think that Fleetwood may have mentally disengaged from the project even before it reached completion.
